Rules

Unfortunately, we need rules. Without them, things degrade pretty quickly, and L³ just aren't as fun. Some of these rules may not seem to make much sense to you if you're new to LANing, but we can assure you they're all quite necessary. Please respect these rules - if you really don't like them, don't come.

General

You're drunk when we say you're drunk.
Smoking is outside only.
Headphones only please.
Use deodorant often, but not too liberally. Or, simply go and have a shower.
Do not 'borrow' other people's things without their consent.
We are not a warez convention.
No illegal drugs, weaponry, biological substances or NOS.
Don't watch explicit material or pornography on your computer. Take it home, we don't want/need to know.
We are an R18 event. There may be very special circumstances. If you believe you are a special circumstance, please contact us.
No photography, from cameras from any source including web cams, cellphone cams, digital camera and film cameras. If you would like to take photographs, please contact us.
Be mindful of people's personal space. Generally, try to be a little more social than usual while gaming since you're doing it within a lan environment.
Do not bring other people's computers/laptops or other storage devices so that said person does not need to pay for the event. While we are generally nice people, just remember that by doing this you are literally stealing from us. We put in a hard weekend's work to make sure that the lan goes smoothly for everyone, and that everyone has a good time. If you cannot come, do not circumvent that by not paying. We have been running for eight plus years. We won't be disappearing any time soon.
Do not sell, rent or commercialize any portion of the event without contacting us. L³ tries to maintain a very social environment for all attendees, and the last thing we want is people to start setting up a market place within L³. If you wish to do so, please contact us first for authorization.
Do not block the walking aisles using personal belongings, cables, etc. People still need to walk to get to places and blocking paths makes it difficult to do so. If you can, try to tuck your cables under carpets/mats or route them around tables and so forth.
Do not use two thirds of a table. Most of the tables can sit two people. By using two thirds of a table, somebody else will miss out on the lan. Admins reserve the right to ask you to move your belongings.
Put your main rigs on the floor and not the tables. This is for your own safety, as our tables cannot withstand a lot of weight. If the table collapses, we will not be held responsible for the damages.
Please refrain from arriving too early to the event. If you need to come before the start of an event with your gear, please ask an admin before doing so. If you do arrive before the event starts, please don't disturb the admins as we will be running around setting things up.

Legal Disclaimer

We provide patches and updates for games, operating systems and device drivers. We cannot, however guarantee the validity or stability that any of these patches provide.

We ask that competitors in tournaments and games at LANs own all copy written games, applications and operating systems that they use (open-source, shareware etc titles should have their respective legal requirements met). We can not authoritatively check for evidence of ownership simply because it would take too long, as there are too many hard-drives and too many portable storage devices at a LAN. We would like to point out to attendees of our events that piracy is copyright infringement, illegal - and it does hurt the consumer. As such, if we do find conclusive evidence of software piracy, we will take steps to eliminate it. We will not be held accountable for the dishonesty of those that do decide to skirt the law.

People take a risk when they bring their PCs to an event. Often their machines use expensive equipment, and can not be readily replaced. L³ can not guarantee the safety of your computer from theft, arson or other types of damage. We ask that attendees make use of their friends to keep watch over their equipment while they're away. Also, if any attendee witness's theft or damage being willfully done to another persons computer, they should immediately inform any L³ staff, so we can take steps to stop it. Theft, arson and willful damage will not be tolerated, and will be dealt with as severely as is possible under the law.

We are aware that not everything may be covered here already. If you have a legal concern, please contact us.

Network

For all L³'s we will assign you an IP address as you come in the door. Please go to the front of the room and see an admin up the front to log in, pay, and get your IP. The IP's will all be of the form 172.16.1.xxx where xxx are numbers between 1 and 254. We log the IPs so that we can assure that no conflicts will occur.

Network cabling are provided. If you need another network port please see an L³ admin. Switches are only to be accessed by L³ admins; who will help you plug you into the network.

Redundancy

If you can bring spare LAN cables, please feel free to do so. If people do borrow them off you, remember to get them back from them, as they will probably forget too.

Seating and Power

Please only use the power plugs provided - do not plug in more multiboxes without first asking an admin. If you do, then you risk either blowing up a fuse or causing a brown out. If any damages occur to our fuse box, you will be held responsible. Causing a brown out risks damaging other people's equipment.

Tables and seating will be set up before-hand, though you are pretty much free to put your rig where you want with the exception of reserved seats. Everyone will be provided with two power points. We load balance our power very carefully, so please don't plug in your own four way boards without telling us first.

While it's understandable that you may need more than two power points, please consider if you need to bring everything (i.e bring two PC's, three monitors, a laptop, a stereo...).

There should be plenty of room, so if you really need to bring the gaming chair - go right ahead.

Visitors

We allow visitors to come into our lans for free. However, once a visitor does go on a computer for more than two hours in total, we have to charge the visitor the entrance fee. Visitors also have to follow all the rules above, and they have to make sure they do not disturb any of the L³ attendees as well. That also includes badgering lanners with questions!
