Introduction
L3 #50 ran from the 2nd of July to the 4th of July. While the weather had been very wet during the week, the sun decided to pop out during the weekend. It was still cold due to a very chilly breeze, but it was still awesome weather to host our afternoone BBQ outside. The venue during the weekend was still warm as usual, and the fans did a great job at keeping it within comfort range. We had quite a few different games being played this time round with a bit of Battlefield 2, Starcraft, Killing Floor, Team Fortress 2, Civilization 4, Hedgewars, Multi Theft Auto, Space Battal, Dawn of War: Soul Storm, Diablo 2 + Median XL, GRID, Transformers, Naughty Bear, DJ Hero and Settlers of Catan. Prizes and thanks were given out and said on Saturday midnight and the weekend wrapped up with tired but very satisfied admins and attendees.
Attendance
Attendance sky rocketed this lan with a total of 86 people attending the lan. We had a very busy Friday and Saturday night, and it was good to see our newly refurbished sleeping area getting used a lot. We do apologise about one of the beds giving way (one of the army bed's canvas had a pre existing tear which was fixed with some stitching). As always, we appreciate everyone who attended this lan, making it a great lan! Thank you.
Gaming
-
Starcraft
The Starcraft tournament was setup as a single round elimination. This was done because of time reasons, but it worked out well none the less. In the first round we had Vernius vs Monkey Man (Monkey Man won), Peen vs Eagle32 (Eagle32 won), Sage vs Lord Booga (Lord Booga won), Seihava vs Savitri (Savitri won), Nooblet vs Orillion (Nooblet won) with Khoal defaulting as Cryotek was unfortunately sick (get well buddy!). In the second round we had Eagle32 vs Savitri (Savitri won), Khoal vs Nooblet (Nooblet won), with both Monkey Man and Lord Booga having bys. In the third round we had Monkey Man vs Savitri (Savitri won), Nooblet vs Lord Booga (Nooblet won). In the finals, it was Savitri vs Nooblet. Savitri won and took away the Starcraft 2 preorder prize. Congrats! (Could everybody please email me in their play backs for everyone)
-
Killing Floor
A few of us decided to play a couple of rounds of Killing Floor. I swear that they've made it harder with the latest patches. It was good fun as always but Flesh Pounders are still hard!
-
Civilization 4
KingJackal and I (Solid Snake) played a cooperative game vs AI. Somewhere within the 1800's we were launching ICBM's at the philistines in the other continent. A level 19 city going to level 1 after 4 nukes was rather hilarious.
-
Multi Theft Auto
This game is absolutely insane. You can spawn in crazy vehicles like tiny tanks, tiny RC planes and even a flower pot. You can also change how you look from crazy weirdo clowns to half decent scantly clad workers of the evening
. The roof tops game type is pretty awesome. The goal of the game is to simply make sure to stay on top of all the roof tops as they drop down. Sometimes you'll need to make death defying jumps, punch and kick people to get them off your roof tile. Last one to survive wins the round.
-
Space Battal
A challenge was set by Eagle32, although the only to actually complete it was him. He made an awesome 2D space fighter. It'd be neat if Eage32 would upload a download somewhere (nudge nudge). Give it try, and I'm sure at the next lan we'll have an even cooler version for next time.
-
Dawn of War: Soul Storm
This game just gets more and more epic every time we play this. I suppose we're all getting better at it, so we building massive armies and countering each other with the appropriate units. Still, this game is great when we do lots of comp stomping. Looking forward to the next lan. I'm sure we'll all be even better next time round; although perhaps we'll play it with Dawn of War Pro.
-
Diablo 2 + Median XL
We gained a couple of levels in this play time, and some pretty sweet items. Sorry that I didn't get all player character profiles up yet ... hopefully sometime this month.
-
Naughty Bear
This game is insane. As far as I can tell, it involves a group of stuffed teddy bears with one of them being "naughty". Being naughty involves you defluffing the other bears ... by any means possible. Baseball bats, bear traps and all other manner of "naughty" things.

Settlers of Catan

Thanks to headshot for supplying us with more bread. A good BBQ was had, with many lanners satisified. Do remember that the BBQ can be used to cook your own goodies as well.

Feedback
We welcome any feedback you have about our lans so that we can improve L3. Feel free to email us, post on the forums, message us privately or contact us via Facebook.
I know from what I experienced it was good fun with the NZF guys, although Steam was being gay, not sure what can really be done to fix (if theres actually a fix or not). The one problem I had more than anything was the sleeping arraingments you guys had set-up. While I found the cots to be comfortable the first night, attempted to take a nap in one later the 2nd day only to almost fall through it! Maybe have a couple of pads down for people that dont want to die in their sleep?
Epic Drexels Breakfast went off without a hitch, we had 10 people come along, which is a huge effort, so thanks to everyone who attended ! I think we may be making this a regular occourance at L3 :)
Team Fortress with the NZF Crew was fun, i didnt get a whole lot of TF2 in but the short game that i played was great. Look forward to playing again at the next event :)
[its not my fault you suck]
Yeah. There could be a number of problems with it, ranging from issues with that many Steam requests blowing up our router; Steam not liking that many requests from a single IP or Steam just being slow.
Yeah, we discovered that one of the beds had broken. To confirm that this was the same bed, was it one of the army canvas ones? The stitching for that fell apart and we should be getting a replacement for it. We have two really awesome ones (Ones with mattresses and a spring bed), one mediocre one (army canvas bed) and the rest are pretty flimsy (one of them is now broken). Unfortunately we had to do it on the cheap, but it'll get better as time goes along.
drexels rocks ^_^ big ups to them for making me food that i can eat, you guys rule =D
and yah, i hate steam for lan play, i took my pc to a friends place and whored their internet, to fully update everything, but bugger having to do that everytime :(
While I didn't get much of it in either, TF2 was indeed fun. Steam logins shouldn't be a problem - TF2 works fine on LAN with Steam in Offline Mode, so as long as you enable it at home before the LAN (preferably on Thursday night, so everybody's got the same version of everything) you should be fine
. This was complicated slightly at L3 #50 because a TF2 update came out on Friday - but if everybody had been in offline mode, nobody would have received the update...
I know some of you (especially NZF) didn't want to forego online TF2 between Thursday night and your arrival at the LAN - don't forget, the best way to cut down on gaming downtime is to come to L3 on Friday night
I look forward to playing a bit more TF2 at future LANs - hopefully we won't have to contend with last-minute updates again
, and everyone will remember to put Steam into offline mode at home before the LAN
Where are all the pictures?
My bad Robyn, Maximinus has sent them to me already and I haven't made any time to put them up just yet. I'll carve out some time this week and next week to have them up. Thanks for your patience!
it was the bed in the back left corner, flush against the wall. It may have been army, it was dark though, I didnt see it very well.
Yes, it is the one that is current broken. Thanks for confirming.
And i cleaned up fag butts >_>
Maybe it was the sheer fatigue that made me do it =D
I for one didn't wanna bbq and eat outside while swimming in a giant ashtray ^^

Fair enough too! Yeah, I've been meaning to buy a metal bucket with sand in it to help that ...
awesome lan once again, all sorted for the next one tho,
new lcds, custom power distro and 4 more hdds (passed the 1tb mark yay)
well my comp would of been cool 2 years ago
