Hey guys,

I've been thinking of this for a long time now, and we couldn't do it before in the past due to the erratic times we held L3, but now that we can be really consistent with our times... I was thinking of holding a persistent game that can span over several L3's. Some of the games I can think of are:

  • Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction
  • Titan Quest
  • Freelancer
  • Dungeon Siege
  • Baldurs gate

Are there any others that people might be interested in playing? What I plan to do is to keep the server with us, organising a dedicated chunk of time at L3 for the mini-event and finally, keeping a little blog about it on the website. I think this would be really fun!

Looking forward to see how this works out. Also let me know if you're interesting in joining!

What a great idea! I cant

What a great idea! I cant think of any other games that could be played like that...

But I do have some queries, What if someone who is participating doesn't show up to a lan, do you continue? find another? And what about player number restrictions? its been a while since iv played either of those ones so cant quite remember the numbers..

Oh just thought of a game Dungeon Siege , well any sort of rpg, follow the story line thing ..could be quite fun.. baldurs gate for example

I think this is a good idea

I think this is a good idea also. But Justice has a point about if a player doesn't show up.

I think we'll just have to continue on without them. Depending on the size we get, this may not be a huge problem as some games automatically scale depending how many players we have (such as Diablo 2). I suppose it's possible that players may lag behind a little bit, but given the time frame we've got (perhaps 4 to 6 hours of play time per lan) it may not be too far of a lag unless they miss a lot of lans.

Yeah, we'll simply have to run the game at the largest size possible. Most co operative games I've seen can go up to 8 players.

Appears that Vega Strike's

Appears that Vega Strike's multiplayer is only available in the latest SVN repository, meaning I'd probably have to compile the game. So I think that one is out.

Allegiance is pretty difficult for most newbies as it is quite a complex game to play, thus I might give that one a miss. But what I really want to do is to allow people to create characters which they play at L3. Hence the games I've so far listed, allow you to do.

Not so much a persistent

Not so much a persistent game, but always a fun one to play over a long time is (imo) Age of Empires 3 .. Its a fun RTS which your 'race' levels up for winning and various other feats. After each battle you can chose a new trait for your race (if you leveled) Can get some epic battles going.

Dunno just a thought. Some maps can take a few hours to win, I believe the game can be saved on the server..

just another 2c :D

We've decided to go with FreeLancer + Discovery. I'm really looking forward to it.
