Nothing too major. People tend to get upset when their favourite game isn't played in one of the largest lans in Christchurch.
The last post by Tiwaking! is actually total BS. We use the same law as ISP etc. That is to say, a company cannot be sued by the criminal activities of people who use the services provided by the company. i.e If I say was to download a movie/music or whatever else that is deemed to be an illegal act, Warner/Virgin or whatever company who owns the product can sue me, but they aren't able to sue the ISP that I used to do it with. Under NZ law, they aren't able to do that.
We run on the same exact laws.
I'm not really going to bother signing up on that forums to tell him that, but hey even if I did, I would just be flamed anyways. Oh well, thanks for bringing it up.
I make the impossible possible ... ... ... to a certain extent.
Lol, slagging? I'd have to have pretty thin skin to worry about that :p.
Of course that OCNZ thread annoyed him, I was playing devil's advocate - I was trying to provide an alternative POV to spark up some debate.
And yeah, Tiwaking! obviously didn't read what I posted - the common carrier part of the bill is one of the parts that I was saying was really good and necessary. And it's the bit that makes his hypothetical situation never occur ;).

The funniest thing is CSS is played, I've seen ppl playing it at the last two lans that I've attended. The only thing stopping people playing it is the mocking. Oh and look you guys now have started V3 which if i remember correctly has CSS as one of the tournaments.
I do find what one guys said to be funny. "Pretty piss poor to not provide servers for a game that is wildly popular."
Uhh if it's wildly popular, wouldn't people that like it set up their own servers. I like minesweeper, it is wildly popular I demands a server!
Minesweeper FTW!
Trust me, I'm an engineer A bored engineer is the second most dangerous person in the world...right behind a bored politician
Aye but again, L3's stance on CS isn't the game. In fact in some respects it is a good game (to capture a market that large and for that long), its just the tards that do come with the game.
It sort of is a shot gun approach to things really. We say that the game isn't played, and you'll stop a whole bunch of unwanted people coming in the first place.

Its a psychological factor I believe. People have paid for this lan (L3 in this case) so they expect a certain amount of services to be available. One of those services could be servers for example ... if this lan was for free I doubt many people would complain about this sort of thing.
And yes its another psychological factor that dedicated servers MUST exist. OMG, no dedicated server = no play. Don't particularly see whats the problem with listen hosted servers... most people seem to do it for the games that they want to play with no real hiccups (such as UT2004, Quake 3 etc).
There are some exceptions but people have been great to bring their own servers anyways.
I would like to think that L3 concentrates on what is important for a lan, and that is power & networking. A lot of L3's funds goes towards power and networking switches to provide those essential services. Eventually there will be enough money to buy sweet gaming servers, but hey, if we did it the other way around .... I'm sure it'd be great to have kick ass game servers with some pretty poor networking setup :D

who are those dicks to badmouth the one and only KJ! i mean he does have his flaws and everything (i own him at dota and most other games cause thats what i do) but he is a good guy and he is one of the makers of L3, these guy need to know who they are talkin to
24 hours in a day 24 beers in a case coincidence? I think not!
but he is a good guy and he is one of the makers of L3, these guy need to know who they are talkin to
Yeah...as much as I don't agree with they argument over there; I don't think being a LAN admin attaches a Divine status to your opinions on Copyright Legislation, so it doesn't really matter who is commenting, as opposed to the content of their post.
I.e.
If a 6 year old points to an apple, and states "That is an apple" it is not any less credible than if some authority on the subject, say a Botanist points to it and states "That is an apple.". The only difference is how people judge the opinion, and I think people are inclined to disagree with the opinion KJ holds regardless of whether it was a 1337_LAN_Admin or a 15 year old.
But yeah I'd agree with KJ, on a realistic level about the bill. And those guys over on ICONZ need to attack the argument rather than the person.
Isn't it ironic with the "what we have here is a failure to communicate" post, and who posted it? lol

I agree! Minesweeper FTW!
btw: KJ is teh God. Why would something as trivial as a little slagging/flaming worry him? lolz
