Was wondering if anyone has had similar issues to the ones below and might know where to look or what exactly is causing the probs. I am going to build a new comp sometime before the next lan but still wouldn't mind sorting issues with this one.
My mobo (an old epox 8rda+) has a setting where can get it to turn on by itself at a set time, however though enabled it very rarely does so nowadays. Also it sometimes hangs for a fair while at the hard drive detection point of bootup. Seems like a bios issue to me.
Another issue which maybe separate, is that windows will usually freeze up during loading when I reboot into it, going from shutdown to on is fine but rebooting will cause it to freeze. Yet if I reboot into Debian which is my main OS, I never have any issues.
Also I got a IBM thinkPad off my sister and was wondering whether anyone knows of any Linux flavours which are exceptionally good at extending battery life/minimising power consumption? If there is no stand out flavour in terms of power usage I'll just go Debian as usual I guess.
PS Woohoo, New Years Eve baby. Mmm breakfast beers
